NYC influencers to know, the rise of Tumblr, and Hillary joins Bluesky

Your weekly social scoop 🎬

Hi CCs,

Last night I attended an event in NYC hosted by Instagram coach Brock Johnson, who I have interviewed previously on deepfeed Podcast. The event heavily focused on optimizing your Instagram bio and was super helpful.

It’s worth taking a look at your current bio or your brand’s bio to make sure you’re getting the most out of your profile.

You can learn more here.

Ok let’s get into it!

MrBeast crashed our Mark Zuckerberg interview

The latest episode of Colin and Samir features an interview with Facebook founder and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg as well as Jimmy Donaldson (MrBeast) to talk about the future of the internet and video creation.

Colin and Samir have earned a powerful reputation by interviewing top creators and social media CEOs, but this interview in particular has sparked some strong feelings in the comments on YouTube with many remarking that C&S were way too easy on Zuck and that this was a missed opportunity and in poor taste for their channel. I do however appreciate MrBeast’s feedback on what he would improve if he was CEO.

“You’re following the wrong New York City influencers” — We asked 18 creators what they thought of the viral video that sparked “boring influencer” debate. (The Cut)

Earlier this month, a TikTok video went viral for calling New York influencers “boring as fuck.” While the video’s creator, @martinifeeny, wanted to share her opinion with her limited number of followers, it ended up on what seemed like everyone’s “For You” page. It did not go over well, infuriating NYC influencers who assumed the video was about them. However, the creator never revealed the people she was talking about.

P.S. as a follow-up, influencer agency Fohr posted the “Unofficial NYC Influence Map: a non-exhaustive guide to the creators keeping the city's content fresh” on LinkedIn which you can check out here.

Tumblr: Gen Z’s safe space.

Sick of Musk and Zuckerberg, Gen Zers are flocking to Tumblr.

"Our menu has been full. There's been no more space to add something else," says Andrew Roth, the 26-year-old founder and CEO of the Gen Z-focused research and consulting firm DCDX. In a poll of more than 600 Zoomers that DCDX conducted in 2024, two-thirds of respondents said they wanted their social media presence to become more private. Tumblr might be just what many young people are looking for. "Now the time feels more ripe for that to happen for Tumblr, even if Tumblr is doing the same thing or staying in the same spot."
