TikTok ban, death of the music icon, and more
Your weekly social scoop đ¸
Hi CCs! Hope you had a great weekend. When I write you next week, Iâll be in Paris where I will live for the month of May. đ Traveling solo and getting out of my comfort zone are the best ways to fuel creativity and inspiration. Please do send me your recommendations for your favorite restaurants, bars, museums, etc!
Ok, here we go.

Emma Chamberlain turned YouTube stardom into a creative coffee empire
âWhen Emma Chamberlain started her YouTube channel in 2017, she had no intention of becoming an internet phenomenonâlet alone the multi-hyphenate multimedia mogul she is today. But through hundreds of videos, the 22-year-old creator has shapeÂshifted before viewersâ eyesâgoing from a teen âPulling an All-Nighterâ and explaining why âWe All Owe the Dollar Store an Apologyâ to a more sophisticated travel and fashion documentarian.â

How Chicken Shop Dateâs Amelia Dimoldenberg turned Teen âdelusionâ into hollywood domination
Chicken Shop Date is a British YouTube interview show created and hosted by Amelia Dimoldenberg. The show features celebrity interviews that are framed as dates in a local chicken shop.
âIn the past few months alone, [Amelia has asked] Cher about heartbreak (âshe loves a long storyâ), Jennifer Lawrence about her kinks (âcomplete movie starâ), and Paul Mescal about his famous thighs (âhe was so nervousâ). Her chat with Louis Theroux sparked a global TikTok dance craze, while Lena Dunham emails to tell me she feels âlucky Ameliaâs in my orbit.â

Every generation has its musical icons â artists that shape pop culture and live on as the eraâs immortal, audible representatives. But in 2024, music execs are reportedly in crisis mode over their inability to create them.
Universal Music Group pulled their catalogue from TikTok earlier this year, but the reliance of major labels on the platform may have already caused irreversible damage to pop culture.

About the ban: TikTok is pledging to go to court
TikTok CEO Shou Chew said in a recent TikTok: âRest assured, we arenât going anywhere. We are confident, and we will keep fighting for your rights in the courts.â
TikTok is arguing that the law is a violation of users' First Amendment right to free speech.
